Animal Protectors of Allegheny ValleyA no-kill, non-profit shelter located in New Kensington, PA. Our shelter is always full of animals, many which are strays. Our shelter is a constant stream of activity. New animals are examined for possible problems, medical charts are checked and medication is administered, when needed. Cat cages and dog kennels are cleaned daily. From the time the shelter opens until it closes, there's a constant flurry of cleaning, feeding, exercising, cuddling, caring. Fresh food, water, litter boxes, and blankets are placed in each cage daily.
Animal Rescue League of Western PennsylvaniaTo provide temporary shelter, food, medical attention, and comfort to all abandoned, neglected and injured animals brought to us by the community; to restore lost animals to their owners or seek new homes for them, and to educate the public about the humane care of animals with a goal of reducing overpopulation.

Our Bully Breed Ambassadors program is a unique class specifically designed for owners of pit bulls addressing many of the challenges these owners face due to the misperceptions often times fostered by the media. We also offer community education programs and learning workshops on pet related topics for pet lovers and owners. In addition we have implemented a behavior program for our shelter dogs learning basic skills while they await their new forever home under our roof. Our goals are to keep animals in loving and caring homes as good citizens; to reduce the number of animals surrendered to shelters; and to place the thousands of animals surrendered each year.

Cruelty Investigations and Rescue
Animal FriendsAnimal cruelty, dog fighting and animal neglect are issues that are all too common in our area. The reality of these activities touches the lives of all citizens, pet-owning and non-pet-owning alike. At Animal Friends, our Humane Investigations department serves as a valuable resource for citizens to call to report animal abuse. We provide investigative and law enforcement support to all of Allegheny county, ensuring that all
animals are given the protection they are due under the law.
Western Pennsylvania Humane SocietySince its organization in 1874 by concerned Pittsburgh business and community leaders, the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society has been actively committed to the prevention of cruelty to animals. The strength and longevity of Pittsburgh's oldest pet charity is grounded in a philosophy of prevention through education. Over one hundred years of first-hand experience has shown that most offenders violate anti-cruelty laws out of ignorance. In most cases, the situation can be resolved by firm, but friendly, advice
about the proper care of animals. These offenders are willing to learn as they are genuinely interested in the welfare of their animals. Others will grudgingly correct a bad situation simply because they know the humane officer has the means to bring about criminal prosecution. If the correction is not made, we will prosecute.
Spay/Neuter Services
Animal FriendsAt Animal Friends, we know that spay and neuter is the only way to proactively relieve the pet overpopulation problem. In Allegheny County alone, conservative estimates show that 25,000 homeless and abandoned pets enter shelters each year. The largest cause of euthanasia is the inability to find adoptive homes for these unwanted animals.
Animal Rescue League of Western PennsylvaniaAs an Open Door Shelter, no animal is ever turned away when it no longer has a home. However, spaying or neutering your animals is CRITICAL for controlling the animal population. Less unwanted litters = less abandoned animals in need of homes.
