pupa: new again
Staycee Pearl Dance project's first evening length concert features works created during an incubation period that began in October, 2009. SPDP continues to play around with contemporary dance sensibilities and ideas of style, design, and cultural references. Choreographer/Artist Staycee R. Pearl and six dancers have developed works ranging in inspiration from the light-hearted to the weighty and worldly.

Cello Fury
Three classically-trained cellists and a drummer, with a knack for headbanging and a penchant for mid-song cello-twirling.  Cello Fury ventures past scales and arpeggios to the territories of experimentation and counterpoint, syncopated backbeats, and unusual time signatures. WQED's Bryan Sejvar is emcee.

A Concert in the Chapel
Villa St. Joseph presents Il Quattro in works by Luigi Boccherini and Franz Schubert. Il Quattro's members are Pittsburgh Symphony musicians Shanshan Yao and Laura Motchalov, violins; Joen Vasquez, viola; and Irvin Kaufmann, cello and guitar; with guest cellist Adam Liu. Ticket proceeds benefit the Music Therapy program at Villa St. Joseph.

Carl Schultz, who was educated at the University of Pittsburgh, is involved in the music ministry of Memorial Baptist Church, Johnstown. He also is a social worker and a writer of critical essays.

Taming of the Shrew
Since 1991, the Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company has performed to more than 50,000 spectators. Ticket proceeds benefit Powell Stackhouse Park, a 277 acre nature reserve. Frequent shuttles run between the Pavilion and parking at Westmont Middle School at Luzerne Street & Diamond Boulevard.

Music Inspired by African American Song and Dance
In conjunction with the PSO's Dvořák in America teacher training institute, pianist Steven Mayer, credited with "piano playing at its most awesome" by The New York Times, will play "Bamboula" by Gottschalk, and pieces by Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, James Johnson, Fats Waller, and Antonin Dvořák.  Free and open to the public.
