FM Cultural Calendar | Starting Sunday, August 8, 2010


Keystone Wind Ensemble
This fine concert band of about 50 woodwind, brass, and percussion players is sponsored by Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and directed by Dr. Jack Stamp, who chairs IUP's Music Department.  The ensemble has recorded 18 CDs, attracting a national following.  WQED's Stephen Baum is emcee.

Bach, PDQ, and Brahms
Members of the Pittsburgh Symphony play the Grand Opening Concert of Chamber Music Pro's Advanced Chamber Music and Music Business Seminar. Highlights include Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3, P.D.Q. Bach's Schleptet, and Johannes Brahms' Sextet #1 for Strings.

This production in English features Gail Novak & Rebecca Rumfelt as Violetta; Andrew Boag & Michael McCullough as Alfredo; and Sean Donaldson & Guy Russo as Germont.  The Undercroft Orchestra is conducted by Woody Brown; the Undercroft Chorale is prepared by Rebekah Hill.

The SwankEasy

Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra
This orchestra began in 1958 as the Bethel Park Orchestra --later the Carnegie Symphony Orchestra.  It's made up of over 80 volunteer musicians.  Former music directors include David Stock, Keith Lockhart, and Bruce Lauffer.  The current music director is Warren Davidson.  The orchestra plays series of concerts each season in the Upper St. Clair High School Theater.  WQED's Ted Sohier is emcee.
