This report covers the employment unit consisting of Stations WQED(TV), WQEX(TV), and WQED-FM, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and WQEJ(FM), Johnstown, Pennsylvania. RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES

1. INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
WQED Multimedia provides unpaid internships to Junior and Senior level college students in areas of Web Development, Information Technology, Community Relations, Digital Media Production, FM Radio, TV Production, Educational Resources, and Business, both during the school year and the summer. We strive to provide one of the top multimedia internship programs in the region and to ensure that every intern has a positive experience with meaningful activities and tasks that are relevant and real. In addition, we may provide a volunteer experience to enthusiastic, ambitious and mature college freshmen and sophomores. In order to seek qualified candidates for internships, WQED lists yearlong postings available for students to apply on the WQED website at www.wqed.org as well as sending announcements to educational institutions listed on the recruiting sources listed. During the past year we have had 42 interns.

2. PARTICIPATION IN JOB FAIRS
During this reporting period WQED has been represented at eight job fairs:

  • (1) LaNita Butler, HR Specialist represented WQED at the Wilberforce University Spring Career Fair on April 4, 2008 at Wilberforce University in Ohio.
  • (2) LaNita Butler, HR Specialist represented WQED at ITT Technical Super Career Fair 2008 on May 8, 2008 at Best Western Parkway Center Inn in Greentree.
  • (3) Cheryl Harris, Director of Human Resources represented WQED at the Carnegie Mellon Public Service Career Fair on September 4, 2008 at the Carnegie Mellon University.
  • (4) Jason Argenas, HR Specialist represented WQED at The St. Vincent Job Fair on October 29, 2008 at St. Vincent's College.
  • (5) Jason Argenas, HR Specialist represented WQED at the WestPACs Job Fair on October 30, 2008 at the Harmerville Indoor Sports Complex.
  • (6) Jason Argenas, HR Specialist represented WQED at the 4th Annual NEED Workforce Diversity Internship Fair on January 9th 2009 at Shadyside Hospital.
  • (7) Jason Argenas, HR Specialist, and Mike Waruszewski, Manager of Financial Reporting & Analysis represented WQED at Waynesburg University Business Administration Career on February 25, 2009.
  • (8) Cheryl Harris, Director of Human Resources, and Jason Argenas, HR Specialist, represented WQED at the .Org a Non-Profit Career Fair at Carnegie Mellon University Job Fair on March 19, 2009.

3. LISTING EACH UPPER-MANAGEMENT LEVEL OPENING IN A JOB BANK OR NEWSLETTER OF A MEDIA TRADE GROUP WITH A BROAD BASED MEMBERSHIP, INCLUDING THE PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN AND MINORITIES.

During the period 4/1/08-3/31/09 WQED has posted all upper management level openings to the job bank of the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters.

PROVIDED TRAINING TO MANAGEMENT LEVEL PERSONNEL AS TO METHODS OF ENSURING EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AND PREVENTING DISCRIMINATION.
Training for management level personnel conducted on March 6, 2009 concerning equal employment opportunity practices by the General Counsel & Director of Human Resources.
